This is my response to the interview.
Reading some of his writing was confusing just because of
the technical aspect of it and the words he chose to use. From what I read
about film and photography, there are many differences. With film, everything
in the picture has to be perfect when you take the shot. With digital photography,
you can take many photos and blend, piece and put them together using a computer
program. Lighting adds a lot of depth, detail, color and texture to the
picture. I also feel that lighting just makes the images in the photo pop on
the page. It also changes the size of the image in the photo. The size of the
train in Howards work really surprised me how small it looked, when in actuality
it’s huge. I think lighting is important because it can alter the reality of
the picture, making it your own. I’m actually going to try to make a light
source like the one he talks about in the interview. A flashlight and pipe with
holes in the top may work. When I took my photos this week I attempted to make
that light source. I took a toilet paper roll, pooped holes in the top, taped a
flashlight to one end and taped the other end. That seemed to work pretty well
with the first dozen or so shots I took. After experimenting a little bit, I decided
to only use the flashlight for more control. Doing that made for some really
neat pictures. I probably took about 75 plus pictures and uploaded 12 because I
couldn’t pick out my favorite 5. It was a lot more fun than I thought it was
going to be.
